To those spending the Lunar New Year in Japan:

Considerable attention has been warranted by the recent appearance of an African swine fever virus in imported meat products. It has been determined in past years that a large number of meat products have been sent by post from individuals spending the Lunar New Year in countries, particularly in Asia, where the African swine fever is most active. Do not enclose ham, sausage, or any other processed meat products in parcels sent to Japan by post. Measures by Animal Quarantine Services to inspect parcels sent from overseas, including the use of sniffing dogs, have been augmented. Knowingly importing meat products into Japan is punishable by fine and/or imprisonment.
