As the Cities Burn...

COVID-19 global cases topped six million. The USA continues to lead; new confirmed cases are decreasing in frequency, but rates of contagion descend but slowly from the peak. Other news coming from the USA of late reminds me why I spend so much time avoiding the place, and why my hackles rise when speaking to me refer to it as "your country." I may rant at a later date about certain conventions that indicate the country's very exceptional position in the world, but for now suffice it to say that almost none of the recent social, political, or psychological developments bode well for the country's future. Granted, that very bland general statement could be said for just about anywhere these days, but I believe the situation in Japan to be vastly better by any objective standard.
